After working a concert the night before, I didn’t even plan on going out again, but I had already promised I would be there to capture this one. Going into the night, I felt ready, and Hippie HxA made sure it was worth it.
From the moment they stepped in, Hippie HxA looked prepared to take over Hacienda Heights. With new merch and a confident presence, they came in ready to make a statement. They mentioned they had been rehearsing for this show, and it showed in the way they carried themselves and controlled the energy of the room.
Before their set, I got to see Vacant Husk perform, and it’s clear he continues to build momentum with his music. He later returned to join Hippie HxA on stage for “KolddarkHippie,” one of their standout tracks, which brought a strong reaction from the crowd.
The night wasn’t without its challenges. Hippie HxA ran into some technical difficulties while trying to bring out another feature, but instead of letting it slow them down, they did what they’ve consistently done every time I’ve seen them. They brought the energy right back.
That ability to recover and keep the crowd engaged says a lot about their growth as performers.
I also got to hear one of my personal favorites, “Never Make It,” which hit just as hard live as expected.
Towards the end of the set, the surprises kept coming. They brought out Xhubb for his first live performance. He mentioned being nervous, but from what I saw, he looked and sounded natural on the mic. It definitely felt like the start of something, and I’m looking forward to seeing more from him.
Another unexpected moment was seeing a fourth member join them on stage, Kanoa’s brother Kimo, adding even more presence to the performance.
It ended up being a night full of surprises, energy, and resilience. Even with the setbacks, Hippie HxA showed they can adapt, perform, and keep the crowd with them from start to finish. They have everything it takes, and it feels like they’re just waiting for the right audience to take them beyond the underground scene.
